About opnd

Apps are happy to give you your data. They are much less interested in making it openable.

Apple Health hands you a multi-gigabyte XML file. Garmin gives you hundreds of nested JSON files. TikTok's download is a wall of text. A Procreate painting is a zip of compressed tiles that only an iPad can read. The usual answers are "install this desktop app", "run this Python script" or "upload it to our server".

We build the fourth answer: open the page, drop the file, get a spreadsheet, a chart or an image back, with the whole job done inside your browser. There are 15 tools so far and more are added every week.

How it works

Each tool is a parser written for one file format. It runs in a background thread in your browser (a Web Worker), reads the file as a stream so large exports do not exhaust memory, and builds the result on your device. The site is static HTML served from a content delivery network. There is no application server, so there is nowhere for your file to go.

How it is paid for

Advertising. Ads sit around the content, never between you and your result, and the tools work the same whether or not an ad loads.

Who makes it

A backend engineer who got tired of writing the same one-off scripts for friends. Requests, bug reports and format samples are welcome at hello@opnd.cc.
