Turn the ^-separated 26AS text download into clean Excel sheets, Part A to Part G, in one drop.

The 26AS .txt downloaded from TRACES or the income tax portal (choose “Text” format, not PDF)

The income tax portal offers Form 26AS as a PDF or as a “text” file, and the text file is the one you can actually work with: every row is there, separated by carets (^). The standard advice is to paste it into Excel and run Text to Columns by hand for each section. This tool does that in one step: each PART becomes its own sheet, header rows become column names, and amounts become numbers you can sum.

Your 26AS contains your PAN and every TDS entry against it. It is parsed in your browser and never leaves your device.

How to download the 26AS text file

  1. 1

Log in to the income tax e-filing portal

Go to e-File → Income Tax Returns → View Form 26AS, and confirm the redirect to TRACES.

  2. 2

Choose the assessment year and “Text” format

On the TRACES page select the year, set View As to Text, and click View / Download.

  3. 3

Open the downloaded file if it is zipped

The download may arrive as a zip protected with your date of birth in DDMMYYYY format. Extract the .txt inside.

  4. 4

    Drop the .txt here

Sheets for Part A (TDS), Part B (TCS), Part C (taxes paid), refunds, SFT transactions and the rest appear in a moment.

What is inside the file

The text file starts with your PAN, name, address and the assessment year, then lists each PART of Form 26AS as a heading followed by a header row and data rows, all separated by ^. Under Part A, each deductor has a summary row and then one row per transaction with section, date, status, amount paid and tax deducted. Part B covers TCS, Part C advance tax and self-assessment tax, Part D refunds, Part E high-value transactions reported by banks and registrars, and further parts cover TDS on property sales and defaults.

What you get

  • A Statement details sheet with PAN, name, assessment year and the other header fields
  • One sheet per PART, with transaction-level detail blocks as their own sheets where the layout differs
  • Amounts stored as numbers so Excel can total them; TANs, dates and section codes kept as text
  • A total of tax deducted across Part A, for a quick check against your Form 16

Limits to know about

  • Only the text format is read. The PDF version cannot be converted here.
  • TRACES has changed the text layout over the years. Headings are detected as the first non-numeric row of each block; an unusual file may need a heading corrected in Excel.
  • From the 2026 tax year, Form 26AS is being replaced by Form 168 under the new Income-tax Act. This tool will read the new text format as soon as it is published.

Questions

How do I convert the 26AS text file to Excel?

Download Form 26AS from TRACES in Text format, extract the .txt if it came zipped, and drop it here. Download the Excel workbook with one sheet per PART.

What is the password for the 26AS zip or text file?

Your date of birth in DDMMYYYY format, as registered with the income tax department, for example 15081990. Newer downloads may not be password-protected at all.

Why not just open the text file in Excel?

Excel treats the whole line as one cell. You would need Text to Columns with ^ as the delimiter, separately for each section, and amounts still arrive as text. This does all of that at once.

Can I use this for the AIS or TIS?

The AIS downloads as JSON or PDF, not caret text. Use the JSON to Excel tool on this site for the AIS JSON.

Is my 26AS uploaded?

No. The file is parsed in your browser. Nothing is sent to any server.
