Clip Studio .clip file viewer
See what is inside a .clip file on a computer without Clip Studio Paint, and get the preview image out.

A .clip file saved by Clip Studio Paint
- Runs in your browser
- Nothing is uploaded
- No signup
- Free
A .clip file only opens in Clip Studio Paint. Send one to someone without the app and they see nothing. This viewer reads the file in your browser and pulls out the preview image Clip Studio stores inside, along with the file’s embedded database for anyone who wants to inspect layers and canvas settings in detail.
It is the quick way to check what a .clip contains before buying or installing anything.
How to open a .clip file without Clip Studio
- 1
Save or export the .clip from Clip Studio Paint
File → Save writes a .clip. Any version from 1.5 onward uses the same container.
- 2
Drop it here
The preview appears with the file details.
- 3
Download what you need
The preview as PNG, or the embedded SQLite database.
What is inside the file
A .clip file is a container of chunks beginning with CSFCHUNK. One chunk holds an SQLite database with tables for the canvas (size, resolution), every layer (name, type, opacity, visibility, blend mode), and a CanvasPreview table with a PNG of the artwork. Other chunks hold the layer pixel data in Celsys’s own compressed format. This tool reads the container and the preview; the pixel data is what a PSD converter needs.
What you get
- The artwork preview as PNG, with its pixel size
- The embedded SQLite database, openable with DB Browser for SQLite or any SQLite tool to read canvas and layer records
- Layer names where they can be found in the file
Limits to know about
- The preview is Clip Studio’s stored thumbnail, not the full-resolution canvas.
- Converting to PSD with layers requires decoding Celsys’s raster format. That is planned; an open-source Python converter (clip_to_psd) exists for those who need it now.
- Layer name detection reads text directly from the database and may miss or mis-split names in some files.
Privacy
This tool runs entirely in your browser. The file is read on your device by a background script, the result is built on your device, and nothing is transmitted to us or to anyone else. You can load this page, turn off your internet connection and the tool keeps working. There is no account and no quota.
Questions
How do I open a .clip file without Clip Studio Paint?
Drop it here for the preview and file details. For editable layers you still need Clip Studio Paint or a PSD exported from it (File → Export → .psd).
Can I convert .clip to PSD here?
Not yet. Clip Studio Paint itself does it with File → Save Duplicate → .psd. A layered converter is on this tool’s roadmap.
What can I do with the SQLite database?
Open it in DB Browser for SQLite (free). The Canvas table gives width, height and resolution; the Layer table lists every layer with opacity, visibility and blend mode.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser.
