Procreate only runs on iPad, so a .procreate file sent to a client, a print shop or your own PC is a locked box. Windows, macOS and Android have nothing that opens it. This viewer reads the file in your browser and shows the artwork preview, the canvas size and DPI, every layer with its visibility, opacity and blend mode, and the time-lapse recording Procreate keeps inside the file.

The time-lapse alone makes it worth it: artists lose access to those videos the moment the file leaves the iPad. Here you download them as MP4.

How to get a .procreate file

  1. 1

    In Procreate, open the artwork

Or in the Gallery, tap Select and choose it.

  2. 2

    Share → Procreate

Choose the Procreate format, not PSD, PNG or JPEG. This keeps layers and the time-lapse inside one file.

  3. 3

    Send it to the computer

AirDrop, Files, iCloud Drive, Google Drive or email. The file ends in .procreate.

  4. 4

    Drop it here

The preview and layer list appear in a moment; time-lapse segments are listed for download.

What is inside the file

A .procreate file is a zip archive. Inside: Document.archive, an Apple binary plist describing the canvas, layers and settings; QuickLook/Thumbnail.png, the composite preview iPadOS shows in Files; video/segments/, the time-lapse as one or more MP4 clips; and one folder per layer holding the pixel data as LZO-compressed tiles. This tool reads the plist, the preview and the video; the tiles are what full-resolution export needs.

What you get

  • The artwork preview as PNG
  • Canvas size in pixels and DPI, stroke count, author and title where the file records them
  • A Layers table: name, visible or hidden, opacity, blend mode, clipping, group
  • The time-lapse video segments as MP4 files

Limits to know about

  • The preview is the thumbnail Procreate embeds, usually a few hundred to about two thousand pixels wide, not the full-resolution canvas.
  • Full-resolution PNG and layered PSD export require decoding the LZO tile data. That is in progress; this page will gain it without the file format changing.
  • Brush (.brush, .brushset) and swatch (.swatches) files are different formats and are not opened here.

Privacy

This tool runs entirely in your browser. The file is read on your device by a background script, the result is built on your device, and nothing is transmitted to us or to anyone else. You can load this page, turn off your internet connection and the tool keeps working. There is no account and no quota.

Questions

How do I open a Procreate file on Windows?

Drop it on this page. You get the preview image, the layer list and the time-lapse video without installing anything. For the full-resolution layers, ask the artist to also share a PSD from Procreate (Share → PSD), or wait for the tile decoder to land here.

Can I convert .procreate to PSD here?

Not yet. The layer structure is read and shown; writing the pixel data to PSD is the next step. Procreate itself exports PSD from Share → PSD.

Where is the time-lapse video stored?

Inside the .procreate file, in video/segments as MP4 clips. Procreate records it as you paint. This tool lists each clip for download; join them in any video editor if there are several.

Why does the layer count differ from what I see in Procreate?

Groups count as layers in the file, and the background colour is not a layer. Hidden layers are listed and marked hidden.

Is my artwork uploaded?

No. The file is unzipped and read in your browser. Nothing leaves your device.
