The mydata~….zip from accounts.snapchat.com, or JSON files from its json folder

Snapchat’s “My Data” download is a zip of JSON files: chat_history.json, snap_history.json, friends.json, account.json, memories_history.json and a dozen more. The HTML copies Snapchat includes are hard to search and impossible to sort. This viewer reads the JSON and shows every section as a table you can scroll, filter in Excel, and keep.

Chat and snap history are merged into single sheets with a column saying which conversation or direction each row belongs to, instead of one sheet per friend.

How to download your Snapchat data

  1. 1

    Sign in at accounts.snapchat.com

Use a browser, not the app. Choose My Data.

  2. 2

    Choose what to include

Tick the sections you want. Including memories media makes the export much larger and arrive as several zips; the JSON sections are small.

  3. 3

Submit and wait for the email

Snapchat emails a download link, usually within a day. The zip is named mydata~ followed by a long number.

  4. 4

    Drop the zip here

The tool reads the json folder inside. If you unzipped it, you can drop individual JSON files instead.

What is inside the file

Each JSON file covers one area. account.json holds your username, creation date and devices. friends.json lists friends, pending requests, blocked and deleted users with the date each was added. chat_history.json and snap_history.json record who sent what to whom and when, with media type but not the content of snaps. memories_history.json lists saved memories with download links that expire.

What you get

  • Account, Friends (with requests, blocked, deleted), Chat history, Snap history, Story history
  • Memories list with dates and media type, Location history, Search history and every other section Snapchat included
  • Counts: friends, chat messages, snaps sent and received, memories
  • A snaps-per-month chart
  • Excel with a sheet per section, CSV per section, or JSON

Limits to know about

  • Snap and chat content is not in Snapchat’s export unless you saved it; you get the metadata (who, when, type).
  • Memories download links in the export expire after a few days; this tool lists them but does not fetch the media.
  • Snapchat has changed the layout of chat_history.json more than once. Sections are read by structure, so new layouts still appear, possibly under raw names.

Privacy

This tool runs entirely in your browser. The file is read on your device by a background script, the result is built on your device, and nothing is transmitted to us or to anyone else. You can load this page, turn off your internet connection and the tool keeps working. There is no account and no quota.

Questions

What do the Snapchat JSON files mean?

Each file is one area of your account: account.json (profile and devices), friends.json (friend list and requests), chat_history.json (messages metadata), snap_history.json (snaps sent and received), memories_history.json (saved memories), story_history.json, location_history.json, search_history.json, and settings files. Drop the zip and each appears as a labelled table.

Can I read my old chats?

Only the metadata Snapchat stored: who you chatted with, when, and whether it was text or media. Message text appears only for saved messages in newer exports.

How do I save my memories before they are deleted?

Request My Data with memories included; Snapchat sends download links for the media files. This viewer shows the list with dates. Download the files from the links promptly, since they expire.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The zip is opened and read in your browser. Nothing is sent to us.
